Let's face it. Most of us can generally tell when a clothing item is of high quality or...not. When magazines do the side by side comparison of a celebrity's ludicrously expensive designer outfit and a "similar" outfit from H&M that is, supposedly, chosen to look the same, most of us can tell the difference.

So does that mean we can't dress well if we're not genuinely rich? Of course not! You just have to know how to do it right. There are tons of people who are not wealthy but look fantastic. And rich! And you can do that. Very easily. There are tips and tricks to looking like you're jet-set on an economy budget.

The Goal is To Exude Effortless Refinement and Sophistication,

One of the biggest goals of most of our style clients is not, necessarily, to look rich. It's to look attractive. Professionally, they want to look powerful, competent, and refined. Personally, they want to look and feel handsome or beautiful, appear effortless, and have a classy wardrobe. It just happens to be that, in order to achieve these style goals, we have found that most clothing tastes, accessories, and jewelry that accomplish these end goals generally tend to look, well...rich. Or luxe.

But you don't need to be wealthy to be able to find pieces that look wealthy.

You just need to know what makes rich people, and you, look rich.

For example, fit is huge. Rich, successful people wear clothes that fit them flawlessly. Understanding that, you can make alterations or tailor a cheaper piece to make it look more refined, fitted, and luxurious. Another example is if you understand that the more light colored a fabric is, the easier it is to see if it's of poor or tasteful quality. A cheap item of clothing will look four times cheaper if it is light colored so, when purchasing lighter colors, always go for greater quality.

This isn't about faking who you are or being an inauthentic person.

Quite the contrary. High quality and good workmanship is appreciated and generally liked by all. Unfortunately, with clothes, designers and producers who put the time into creating those pieces, charge prices that not everyone can afford. So arm yourself with the tips that make clothes look high quality.

Rich folks aren't elusive creatures that you'll only capture in their natural environment while gazing from afar. Nope, they're all around us, and if you want to be perceived as someone who runs with the elite, learn how to act, dress, and talk like them.

"Study them," agrees Los Angeles realtor, coach, speaker, and writer Chantay Bridges. "When a man wears a suit, do they always have cufflinks? A tie clip? How is their handkerchief folded? After you do your homework, do what they do."

*Note: the author of this post is quite funny. This is her commentary about a style guidebook written in the 1980's that, surprisingly, is still pretty accurate today minus a few rules. Great tips in this by the way. And a chuckle!

"Seams and stitching must be even and without puckers."

"A bad hem is a sure sign of a cheap garment. Hemline stitches should be invisible from the outside of the garment. If the material is delicate or transparent and there is no hem, the edge should be well finished by hand-rolling."
