Over the years, we have gotten hundreds of emails, phone calls, and requests for advice on how to become a successful, professional stylist.

People have offered to work for us full time, work for us part time, work as interns, work as coffee runners, work as assistants so they could shadow us as we shopped with clients. Don't leave home without your map!

My husband loves maps. I'm not sure if it's a guy thing, but he can look at and study them all day long. We travel a lot. And whenever we travel, we decide the places we want to visit, the activities we want to do, and he efficiently maps them out first before we do anything else.

We decide, based on the map, where we are going to go. Which things we'll do each day. How long it takes to get from one place to another. How long we stay in a given place. You get it.

Without the map or the plan of locales and attractions we want to see, we would just wander randomly around different countries with no clear direction or goal. We wouldn't accomplish very much.

Sure, we might stumble across a cool thing or person here or there, but we'd never be able to see all the places we've dreamed of seeing or have an efficient way to visit each place.

Same thing with succeeding in your dream job or business. If you don't already know the goals you want to achieve and figure out the map to get those goals, you'll wander around aimlessly, get a few cool things, but struggle to achieve real success.

We learned about building a styling business the really hard way. Thankfully, you don't have to.

When we started The Shopping Friend, we learned everything the hard way. And growth was slow because of it. For years!

Until we finally created a system. A process that brought our creative efforts in line with business systems to effectively cover all areas of our styling business and allowed us to scale up.
